Asbestos – Project Design

Flint Architects Asbestis

Asbestos is a mineral that has long, skinny fibers that are invisible to the naked eye. Once these fibers become airborne, they are easily inhaled enabling particles to become permanently lodged within the human body. This causes serious scarring in the lungs and/or stomach which affects breathing and digestion. Asbestos can even cause cancer.

Asbestos is a "silent killer" because most symptoms do not show up for years. Frequent and extended exposure to asbestos increases the risk of illness. Prior to the EPA setting restrictions in 1980, asbestos was widely used in construction.

Asbestos can be found in: Adhesives, Boiler Pipe Coverings, Fireproofing, Floor Tile, Insulation, Joint Compounds, Shingles, Siding, Soundproofing, Textured Products for Walls and Ceilings, and many more.

If you are concerned there is asbestos in your building, contact Flint Architects for an inspection. We will then advise you on the next steps to be taken whether it be creating a management plan or performing an abatement of this hazardous material.
